During Eric Vanger’s first shift at Starks Prison, he meets the sole inhabitant of its basement cell block.
The tension here was off the charts! I haven’t been this pulled into a prison scene since The Green Mile, and this one stands proudly beside it.
I’ve had Southern Stephen King in my head since starting this book. Green Mile, Shawshank, and especially The Stand. I’m feeling a little terrified.
Thanks again! That's definitely high praise. The Green Mile was one of the inspirations for both the old Death Row block and Grady Perlson in general.
That was freakin' scary! I felt really sorry for poor Eric. So well written, I was completely drawn into the story. Very curious how this is going to unfold!
Thanks! Unfortunately for Eric, there's plenty more of this to come...
Noooo! I feel really bad for him and his pregnant wife! Haha. But I’m really curious for what’s coming next.
They get plenty of page time in the story to come. As with a lot of Pine Haven, Maribeth is very much connected to the plot.
Matt, this book is fantastic. It’s hard to put down.
Thanks so much!
